What We Collect

When you use I'm In The Book, we collect:

• Photos you upload of your grandchild (and any photos of yourself), used only to create your book's illustrations
• Names, ages, and appearance details of the people in your story
• Your story choices (scenes, art style, dedication text)
• Your email address so we can deliver your book
• Payment information, processed entirely by Stripe — we never see or store your card number
• Shipping address and phone number if you order a printed book

How We Use Your Photos

Your photo is used for exactly one thing: creating your book's illustrations. To do that, it is processed by two services under strict commercial terms:

• Google (Gemini) generates the illustrations from your photo. We use Google's paid business API, whose terms state that your content is not used to train Google's models.
• Anthropic (Claude) describes appearance details (hair color, glasses, skin tone) so the illustrations match, and quality-checks every finished page. Anthropic's business API likewise does not train on your content.

We do not build facial-recognition databases, store biometric templates, or profile anyone. We never sell your data or share it for advertising — with anyone, ever.

When We Delete Your Data

• If you don't complete your order: photos and details are deleted after 7 days
• After your book is delivered: uploaded photos are automatically deleted from our servers 90 days later
• Your finished book (the illustrations and PDF) is kept so you can re-download it or order more printed copies anytime — it's yours
• On request: email [email protected] and we'll delete your photos — or everything, including the book — right away

Who We Share Data With

Only the services required to create and deliver your book:

• Google — illustration generation (photo; no training on your content)
• Anthropic — story writing and page quality review (photo and character details; no training on your content)
• Stripe — payment processing (they handle your card; we don't)
• Lulu — book printing and shipping (name and address, print orders only)
• Cloudflare — secure hosting of your finished book file
• Resend — delivering our emails to you

Children's Photos

We take extra care with photos of children. By uploading a photo, you confirm you're the child's grandparent, parent, or guardian — or have their permission. Photos travel over encrypted connections, live on our private servers (never on a public link), are used solely to create your book's illustrations, and are automatically deleted 90 days after delivery. Your book itself lives at a private, unguessable link that only you can share.
